Basenji

Basenji is originating from the hot climate of Africa (Kongo). Found paintings and statuettes
in temples and tombs of pharaohs declare long history of basenji. These dogs still lives with African
tribesmen and they are used for hunting, guarding and protecting houses.

Basenji is dog of moderate height, neither height - nor small. He doesn`t bark, but he is not mute. He controls a range of growl,squeal trought greeting howl to threatening bark if is needed. He is unassuming, he is devoing typical stench and he cares of his hair like a cat. He lives about 14 years and he has no health problems. He get along with children and other animals. He is a great companion, hunter and also loafer. Basenji is independent and intelligent, necesity of move and sense of humour. A Basenji will tolerate snow, even playing in it for a short while, but should the weather be wet, windy and cold, the dog is very loath to venture outside. Basenji loves beeing with his keeper. This dog loves freedom and not a cage.

If you want a playful, teasing, independent, intelligent and inquisitive companion, who can outsmart you more often than not and has a ready answer should you grumble about its conduct, then maybe you and a Basenji are made for each other.
